5 A DAY

5 A DAY Logo
The 5 A DAY campaign aims to increase fruit and vegetable consumption by raising awareness of the health benefits of eating fruit and vegetables and improving access to fruit and vegetables through targeted action. The key message of the 5 A DAY programme is to eat at least five portions (400g) of a variety of fruit and vegetables per day. This recommendation is consistent with dietary recommendations around the world, including those from the World Heatlh Organisation.
Increasing fruit and vegetable consumption can significantly reduce the risk of many chronic diseases. It has been estimated that eating at least five portions of fruit and vegetables per day could reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease, strokes and cancer by 20%.
